I plan to swim Lake Nipissing from the French R. (Campbells Bay) north-east to Marathon beach in North Bay, Ontario, July 14-19, 2022, 28kms. It has never been swum before. In 2020, I was foiled 3 km from shore by a freak gale with 3m waves and 65kph winds. I am fundraising for The Nipissing Trackers branch of the Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth, a volunteer-run skiing program for disabled youth. Just a reminder, you won't see the dot move until we turn it on and start swimming, hopefully Friday morning.
Then, when you log on, you will only get the most recent location when you are on "live" mode. You have to click on "history" to see the whole course.

Nipissing updates
I am all packed and have most of the logistics figured out.
My training is as complete as its going to be. I feel confident I can do the distance after doing an 18km swim a few weeks ago. The only thing we are waiting on now is the weather.
We are tentatively aiming for a 3 a.m. start on Friday morning.
Thank you for all the good wishes.

Shabogesic Beach
Google just informed me that I will be finishing my swim across Lake Nipissing on Shabogesic Beach. It seems that the city of North Bay renamed Marathon Beach to Shabogesic Beach on May 3, 22. Chief Shabogesic was the Nipissing First Nations (NFN) chief who signed the Robinson–Huron Treaty of 1850, thus playing a significant role in protecting NFN's inherent rights and in securing its future. The renaming of the popular beach acknowledges that the City of North Bay is located on the ancestral lands of the NPN and recognizes the importance of the heritage and history of the NFN in the North Bay community.
